The Aran Valley is situated between the two long distance trans-Pyrenean routes, the GR-11 that crosses the Catalonian slopes and South of Aran and the GR-10 that goes through France. There are a whole series of PR’s (short journey paths) and micro-itineraries surrounding the villages of the valley. Many itineraries are available to lovers of nature who are not expert alpinists but want an enjoyable walking journey in contact with nature.

Summer time is hiking time by definition in the Pyrenees. The paths and mountain passes are free of snow and ice. It’s advisable to start early in the morning if you plan a long hike, to be at sufficient altitude before temperatures rise too much. In Val d’Aran we will find water in streams and mountain lakes through the summer, what is very nice especially in hot days.

It’s an ideal moment to plan some of the longest hikes in the mountains as temperatures are lower and sun does not hits you with full force.
